Ida’s Notebook Ida Risser Today is “true” Memorial Day even though it was celebrated earlier in the week. Not only are we to remember our war dead but also family members who have passed on. Memorial Day reminds me of blue ins and red peonies that my mother took to grave sites at this tune of the year. Frequent tnps to a cemetery make a final resting place seem less ominous. As Cindy plans to go to the seashore for a few days after graduation with some girlfriends, I fear the backbreaking job of picking those 500 feet of berries will fall on me. Then again 1 can always hope that my oldest daughter, Nancy, who is flying East with her baby son in early June, will be able to help me. After all these weeks of weeding the strawberry patch because of an over abundance of duckweed in the area, I certainly wouldn’t want anything to interfer with picking them. I do live “off the beaten path” but when these fresh crops are ready to eat then many people find their way to my door. It is always a pleasure to share the harvest with others so that it can be frozen and enjoyed all year.
