Dust off your bib overalls and head on down to the University of Delaware’s Agricultural Hall on Route 896 in Newark. On Saturday, April 25, the students of the College of Agricultural Sciences will roll out the red carpet for their annual all day extravaganza, Ag Day. From 10 a.m. till 10 p.m., come ram or shme, you can find out everything you want to know about farming and gardening, and have a lot of fun in the bargain. Students and professors will be on hand to answer your gardening questions, conduct tours of the grounds and facilities, let you pet the animals, and even prepare a fine country dinner. Come early for the Horticulture Club’s plant sale. Give your garden a head start with a selection of flower and vegetable seedlings grown by students of the club. This group also sponsors a plant clinic, so bring in your droopy dracenas for diagnosis. (Tractors will be provided.) There will be games for grown ups, too, including a tug of war and a hay bale toss. Everybody can munch hot dogs and funnel cake, bring home a loaf of homemade bread, pose for an old-time portrait, and watch a genuine livestock show and lamb sale. Attend plant workshops, take a look at the student photography contest and small crafts, enjoy a hay ride, and learn about no tillage, endocrinology, pathology, soil composition, and reproduc tion. A highlight of the day’s events is Alpha Zeta’s traditional chicken barbecue. From 2 to 6 p.m. you can buy half a chicken, potato salad, roll and butter, homemade dessert and beverage for a modest price, since the students raised the chickens according to market specifications. Tickets are available at the door.
