Utter (Continued from Page Al 2) is continually decreasing, it is imperative that increased em phasis be applied to obtaining additional lands whenever, wherever possible that are suitable for wildlife management and other related outdoor recreational ac tivities. With escalating energy costs, people will seek areas closer to home in order to pursue their recreational activities. The Game Commission’s program is overwhelmingly supported by the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs and many other groups. In this age of declining green areas, many property owners desire not to have their land developed, but instead prefer to convey it to the Game Commission at a reduced pnce and, in many cases, as a gift. An additional statement was made with reference to the in-lieu of-tax payments. The Game Commission is required by law to pay a fixed charge of 39 cents per acre, which is equally divided PUBLIC AUCTION TO BE HELD AT THE FARM ON RT 38, BERKSHIRE. N.Y. HORSEDRAWN & RELATED EQUIPMENT MISC. BARN EQUIPMENT among the county, township and school district for in-lieu-of-taxes despite the fact that we receive no services from these local govern* mental bodies. However, this is only one of the benefits the county derives from State Game Lands. As surveys have shown, these lands attract many people, not only hunters, but also boy scouts, Audubon Society members, hikers, etc., and the money derived from these people flows into the local community. The land itself is sharecropped by local farmers, and the timber from the land is sold to local bid ders - again additional income for the community. The Game Commission’s acquisition program, followed by a land management policy, which includes wildlife management, timber management, watershed management and related outdoor recreational uses, certainly provides both tangible and in tangible economic benefits, and at the same tune is saving land for future generations.
