Poffenberger, left, of Fairland receives handshake and a plaque from Daniel S. Weybright, Jr., Cockeysville Presentation was made last week at Frederick during twenty first annual meeting of the Maryland Council of Farmers Cooperative. Poffenberger will retire June 30 after 50 years of association with the University of Maryland. Weybright is vice-president and secretary of the Baltimore Bank for Cooperatives. Farmer co-ops honor ag member and former extension specialist at the University of Maryland, was honored recently as one of the “founding fathers” of the Maryland Council of Fanner Cooperatives During its 21st annual meeting last week m Frederick, the council presented Poffenberger with a plaque ‘for his many years of service to Maryland agriculture and his interest in agricultural cooperatives which was in strumental in the organizational efforts leading to formation ot the Maryland Council ot Farmer Cooperatives in 1960 ’ Poffenberger is scheduled to ictire on June 30 Except tor three years ot military service during World War 11, he has been associated with aguculture at the College Park campus on a con tinuous basis since he entered as a freshman student 50 years ago After earning his advanced degrees', Poffenberger spent 18 years as an instructor and professor of agricultural economics For the past 25 years, he has served successively as assistant dean and associate dean for instruction in the College of Machine Work mßgji y Welding & mHPSK Farm Supplies Hardware —* p ' D.S. To mark his retirement and permanently recognize his con tributions to Maryland agriculture, a committee of alumni and friends has established the Paul R Poffenberger Scholarship Fund This fund will be a permanent endowment, according to Earl H. Brown, dean ot the College ot Agriculture The annual income provided will be used to support a scholarship for one or more College of Agriculture students.
