New meaning given to FFA at Elco banquet
MYERSTOWN - A national
officer of the Future Farmers of
America gave new and special
meaning to FFA at the 19th annual
banquet and awards program of
the Eastern Lebanon County
Chapter on Wednesday, March 18,
in the middle school.
The new and special meaning
was imparted to the large audience
of members, parents and sup
porters by Susie Barrett, National
FFA Vice President for the
Eastern Region, of Vincent, Oh.
“FFA has changed to meet the
changing needs of farming,” the
national officer said.
“One of the new meanings for
FFA could be Future Followers of
Agriculture since there are so
many people now in agribusiness
who help the farmer.”
Barrett went on to say that FFA
also could stand for Foundation for
Achievement. She explained that a
basic role in this regard for FFA is
the building of leaders today for
tomorrow.
A plaque to honor special recognition for having four sons
receive the FFA Keystone Farmer Degree is presented by
Gerald Strickler, center, Elco Chapter advisor, to Mr. and
Mrs. Carl I Wenger, of Myerstown

A third meaning she supplied
was FFA as representing Future
for America
“Also, it could be Future
Families of America,” she said.
“You, the people of rural
America, make up the core of this
country. You must be optimists to
survive today, though.
“Today, we must plant a crop of
hope - something that we can look
forward to harvesting in the
future. As we are doing in FFA, we
must make a long-term investment
in the future ”
Two state officers. President
Larry Shrawder, of the Kutztpwn
