ASO—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 14,1981 Lancaster Pomona Grange opposes LANCASTER The January meeting of Lancaster County Pomona Grange started with a delicious covered dish dinner, after which the regular meetmg was held with Master Clifford Holloway, Jr presiding Two resolutions were presented and passed Whereas, Governor Thornburgh is asking for a percentage gas tax in place of the present cents per gallon tax And, Whereas, a percentage tax would increase the amount per gallon tax with every rise in the price of gasoline, thereby placing an unfair tax burden on those who must use gasoline to carry on their daily activities. Be it resolved, that Lancaster County Pomona Grange 71 goes on record opposing the percentage gas tax Also approved *vas a resolution honoring Max Smith Whereas, Our County Agent Max Smith is retiring this year, after 44 years of continuous service to this community And Whereas, his leadership has helped Lancaster County maintain its position as one of the top agricultural counties in the U S A And Whereas his office was open to all, rural or urban, and with un tiring devotion tried to answer the problems, large or small, to the best of his ability. And Whereas, with his retirement, Our Extension Office is losing a true and loyal public servant.
