D2—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 14,1981 Tomato growers honor champs HERSHEY - Three Penn sylvania tomato growers were honored Tuesday during the 1981 Vegetable Conference, held here at the Convention Center The State Champion Tomato Gioweis’ Club annually recognizes growers who produce outstanding yields of tomatoes for processing The organization is sponsored by Penn State and the Tomato Processors of Pennsylvania This year’s winners include John E Mason, Erie County. Leon Epler Farms, Northumberland County, Raymond Martin, Snyder County. Thomas Osborn, Erie County Extension Agent, was honored by the group for his contributions to the state’s tomato industry. In the Machine Harvest (75 to 99 acres) Division, John E. Mason, R 1 Lake City produced 1617.07 tons of usable tomatoes on 84 acres to become the champion tomato grower.
