two Pennsylvania horsemen
have been assessed fines
totaling $3OOO for showing a
sore horse in violation of the
Horse Protection Act
Ord accepts Harness Racing position
HARRISBURG - Penn

Secretary Penrose Hallowell
recently announced the
appointment of Harrisburg
businessman Charles R Ord
as Executive Secretary of
the Pennsylvania State
Harness Racing Com
mission.
Ord, 51, is responsible for
the daily admmistratioh of
the Pennsylvania State
Harness Racing Com
mission The Commission
regulates harness racing
with pari-mutuel betting in
the state, administers the
Pennsylvania Sire Stakes
Fund, licenses harness
racing corporations and
supervises harness racing at
22 county fairs. The com
mission also supervises the
Pre-race Testing Program
which protects the public
and the horses against the
effects of illegal medication

marketing strategies
Ord was graduated with a
bachelor’s degree in
chemistry from McKendree
College in Lebanon, Illinois
in 1951 He has worked for
