C3o—Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, December 27,1980 T’WAS A BLUE CHRIST MAS Producers in Order 2 who were looking forward to a white Christmas probably found it turned blue when they got their milk checks this month. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to see the uniform price drop three cents from last month to Jl3 54 You’ve been producing all year and it’s only the “bottom of the barrel” payment left in your Lomsvill Plan fund that made the pnce look better these last four months Your production in November continued at the highest level for the month for Order 2 in 14 years And, your Class I sales dropped to the lowest for the month in 24 years. If you add to that a 16 cent orop in you Louisville Plan Strength is the key to any efficient barn cleaner and Badger Northland’s are the strongest available' PIKEVILLE EQUIPMENT INC. They did give you a 21 cent increase in the Class I price over October and a 10 cent increase for Class II milk But that wasn’t nearly enough to make up the difference. Even looking back to last year won’t cheer you up for the New Year holiday Compared to last November, your price this year was 92 cents better That’s a 7 3 percent increase that isn’t enough to cover the in creased costs of production One resolution you’ll have to make in the new year is to spend less even if it means producing less at lower costs You may be surprised Talk to the man vho knows what that Will eventually do to your price and income. The only good news I can scrape up out of all of this is another break through on your butterfat differential to 17 cents In five months, from June to November, it went from 16 to 17 cents. Six months before that, from December to June, it increased from 15 to 16 cents. Two cents a year isn’t bad. But even that wasn’t a record it jumped 2.2 cents between January, 1979 and 1980 Sorry. GOOD OLD CCC Now, you should look on the bright side and recognize that things could have been much worse without the increase in the Minnesota- Wisconsm Price. It keeps increasing each month in spite of rising production because of government purchases of butter, powder, and cheese. In November, the M-W went to |l2 52 for 3 5 milk. That was 10 cents more than October not a spectacular jump compared to 35 cents the previous month But remember, October was the beginning of the new marketing year for the Commodity Credit Cor poration Many dealers were loading up with dairy products in September before the new support price There s nothing more ft ustratmg than a broken barn cleaner chain That s why Badger Northland has put over 35 years of development into testing and retesting the chain used m Badger Barn Cleaners In fact Badger chains are tested to withstand a minimum of 24 000 lbs of pul! That s what we mean when we say Badger Chains are strong l But that s not the only feature that makes Badger Barn Cleaners strong The transmission is engineered for strength too It II pull up to 550 feet of chain and that s long enough for even the biggest operations And Badger Barn Cleaners are backed by the best parts and service network anywhere Tough dependable and strong That s what you want m a barn cleaner See your Badger Dealer today l became effective on October That 10 cent increase gave you the increase in your Class II price for November which was $12.58 and a Class I price of $14.77 in January, Incidentally, that 35 cent increase in M-W in October will get to you through a $l4 67 Class I price in December. So, you’re going to see continuing increases in your Class prices in the months "brad Bu* T creasing production will limit the increases you find in your milk check GET HAPPY As you can see, I’m trying hard to cheer you up. But I don’t have much to work with this month. As a final effort, if you want .to get happy for the hohdays, let me suggest looking at the Order 2 blend prices without the Louisville Plan payments In October, your blend was $l3 57 But taking out the 44 cents for the Louisville Plan, the price was really $13.13 If 'you do the same thing for (Turn to Page C 32) If you’re looking for a new way to do an old job better, the DV 300 may be the answer.
