His award was presented by The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, sponsor of the 4-H automotive program Winners were selected by the Cooperative Extension Service and awards arranged by National 4-H Council. Miller, son of Mr and Mrs L Miller, is a freshman at Pennsylvania State University, Altoona, and plans a career as an agricultural engineer. The York County youth’s parents owned a Chevrolet Vega that he drove. When it started to bum oil his father told him if he wanted to continue driving it, he would have to replace the engine His father bought a used engine in good condition and the youth began his project Everything seemed to go smoothly and the job was completed-or so it seemed When he tried to start the engine, there was no response The battery tested well The youth went over the whole car and could find nothing out of order. Out of A luck, I was fooling with a loose bolt on the ground wire and suddently the buzzer to signify the key had been left in the switch went off And the car has been running well since," he said The youth then purchased a 1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo which was trouble free until five days before hi high school graduation Then the automatic transmission began to slip and a mechanic at a local garage told him it would be cheaper to buy a good used transmission than to spend $450 to fix the old one The 4-H’er pitched in and worked up until one hou before graduation, at which he had to give a speech, to get the rebuilt transmission installed The youth also has given a number of demonstrations, including one on how to remove an engine from a car American Pork Congress to meet UiSt> JA Provocative ideas and solutions on how to challenge the future are waiting to be discovered at the 1981 American Pork Congress, March 11 to 13, Bartle Hall, Kansas City, Missouri Challenging the Future,” the 1981 Pork Congress theme, will carry through the entire three days of activities, seminars, trade show, and entertainment, sponsored by the National Pork Producers Council A record crowd is ex pected to attend the three day trade show which promises to be one ot the biggest in Pork Congress history Evening Open House!
