County 4-H capons auctioned MANHEIM During a joint meeting between the Manheun and the Lititz Rotary clubs, November 11, capons raised by 4-H members of Manheim, Elm, Penryn and latitz were auctioned. Auctioneers for the event were Jay Witman of the Manheun Rotary Club and Richard Murry of the Latitz Rotary Club LANCASTER - The Lancaster County 4-H Capon Exhibit was held Tuesday at the Elks Club on North Duke Street with 15 members participating. James Hess, 11, was named 4-H capon champion by Judge Kermit Birth, professor ot poultry and marketing at State College. Hess, son of Jim and Sue Hess of Manheun, has been a 4-H member three years. Hess’ capons weighing in at 9.25 pounds sold for $l2 each. He also received $7 in prize money ' ) Reserve honors went to Tim Hostetter, 16, of Manheim. Hostetter, son of Jay and Martha Hostetter, has been a 4-H member for five years. His capons each sold for $l4 U 5 and weighed 11.50 pounds He received $8 in winnings.
