82—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 15,1980 Hesses have Lancaster Roundup steer champs LANCASTER - The Lancaster County 4-H Roundup’s grand champion steer was shown by Gerald Hess during competition between 72 4-H’ers at the Stockyards on Monday. At the halter of the reserve grand champion steer was Timothy Hess. Since both steers were Chianina x Angus crossbreds, it would be easy to assume that the Hess boys, both students at Penn Manor High School, were brothers. But, this is not the case. Gerald Hess, owner of the grand champion black steer and champion showman at the County Roundup, is the son of Mr. and Mrs Abram Hess of R 1 Conestoga. Gerald has been in 4-H for the past 5 years On Tuesday, Gerald received a calf from the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal for his ac complishments in showmanship the day before. Receiving the beef calf has almost become a family tradition for the Hesses. Last year, Gerald’s brother Wayne was the proud winner of the calf. Timothy Hess, the owner of the reserve grand champ is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hess, R 2 Lancaster. ROPE IN SOME EXTRA CASH! Advertise With A Lancaster Farming CLASSIFIED AD...
