D2—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 15,1980 Strause takes two top spots in Berks 4-H beef show BY LAUREL SCHAEFFER Staff Correspondent HAMBURG Taking top honors at the Annual Berks County Baby Beef Sale this year was 16 year old Carol Straose, R 2 Hamburg. Carol’s entry was an Angus X Ctuamna Cross weighing in at 1215 pounds which placed first in the light-heavyweight class and was subsequently named heavyweight champion. , Reserve grand champion honors went to another heavyweight entry, exhibited by Darlene Dietrich, also of Hamburg. Carol Strause was especially pleased with her grinning.* this year which included first place m fitting for ages 16 and over. This was the first time in eight years showing that this young lady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Strause, won Grand Champion honors. She came quite close however, at the Beading Fair last month when her steer captured the reserve grand honors there. Carol is an eleventh grade student at Hamburg Area High School Reserve Grand Champion steer was a Limousine x Shorthorn cross weighing 1176 pounds, placing second to the champion in the light heavyweight class. Reserve Grand Champion Steer was a Limousine Shorthorn cross shown by Darlene Dietrich, Hamburg. With her is buyer John Moose of Hamilton Bank. Its exhibitor, Darlene Dietrich, is the 18 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Dietrich. Darlene graduated from Hamburg Area High School last year. This young lady placed first m the showmanship contest for 16 years and over and was second in fitting. Buyer of the Grand Champion was T.M. Landis, Maryland, paying $1.05 per pound.
