A22—Lancaster Farming, Saturday; October 11,1980 Royal Charolais sweeps KILE championships BY SHEILA MILLER HARRISBURG - The Royal Charolais showstring swung up to the Keystone International Livestock Exposition on their way home from the Eastern National Livestock Ex position in Timonium, Maryland and swept the Charolais Open Breeding Cattle Show. Royal’s national champion female,- RCC Royal R Temptress 2927, captured the grand champion female trophy in competition at KILE after being tagged the senior champion female. This win is the sixth straight victory for the unbeaten female in 1900, according to herdsman Bret Walters. According to Walters, the champion heifer will be turned out to pasture in 1961, retiring from the grueling showroad lifestyle. She is bred to Expectation and is due to calve the latter part of April. Keeping the national champion company on the tie out were other Royal champions. RCC Royal Lady 2830 stood second to the cham pion heifer in their class of spring yearlings and was later tagged reserve senior champion and reserve grand by Judge A. L. Eller, Jr. The reserve champion heifer is a daughter of SHF Sir Royal Sam Ist. Royal Charolais also champion heifer trophy with his late spring yearling Shorthorn heifer Windholme Magnolia 319. mmental bul lampion captured the junior cham pion and reserve champion titiles with RCC Royal Temptree 3076 and RCC Royal Temptress 3056, respectively. Both of the females were senior heifer calves. Royal not only dominated the female Charolais show, they also proved that their Westmoreland County farm has the bull power too. RCC Mr. Expectation 2874, sired by HCR Expectation 269, topped the show and was slapped the grand champion Charolais bull at KILE. The spring yearling bull took the blue in his class and was slapped as junior champion before moving up to take the grand champion’s spot. Royal Charolais Co., Kenwood Farms and Barton Charolais Ranches exhibited the reserve grand champion bull. The summer yearling bull, sired by RCC Royal Standout, stood as reserve junior champion. One more of Royal’s Expectation get took championship honors in the Charolais bull competition. RCC Mr. Expectation 3123, a senior bull calf, received the calf champion rosette. Royal completed their dean sweep at KILE by taking first place ribbons in the group classes and received the premier breeder and exhibitor awards. According to Walters, Royal Charolais ususally shows at seven to eight major events each year. Although the herdsman has been with Royal only since the beginning of the year, he said he believes Royal has been showing at KILE ever since they’ve been in the business. Walters, who comes to Royal from Michigan, boasts of toe winning operation. “Royal either owned and exhibited or-bred and co owned all of the champion bulls at the six major shows held in 1960 to date. Just this past winter we bad a record sale of bulls where we sold 30 head, averaging $3097 a piece.” Their latest victory "at KILE reinforces the fact that Royal Charolais remains king of the com petition. In the Angus show Limelight Blackcap of PR, a March junior yearling heifer, topped the show and captured the grand cham pion Angus female title. The March junior yearling heifer was exhibited by Hamilton Gholson, Ascent of Oakland, Illinois. Lancaster Countian Fritz C. Frey of Quarryville showed the reserve grand champion female. His entry was Twin Oaks Revolution Barb, the second place March junior yearling heifer. Frey also took the reserve junior champion female title with this entry. Ernest Frey II of Quarryville, Lancaster County, showed the senior heifer calf champion. His entry was an early senior heifer calf called Twin Oaks Princess Grace. In the bull competition, Rally Farms Rosebank Angus Farms and Timber Valley Farm of Mxllbrook, New York, showed the grand champion Angus bull. Their entry was Rosebank Con nection 69, an April junior yearling bull. . Reserve grand champion bull of the Angus show was exhibited by Harold E. Young, Jr. of Somerset, Virginia. His entry was Liberty Patriot 1, an early junior yearling bull. S. David Wise of Spring Grove, York County, showed Can Am W 59 to the reserve intermediate champion bull title.'
