This year’s winner brought $3 per pound. It was a 200-pound Yorkshire-Hampshire cros sbred gilt entered by Mike Hoff, 10, of Manchester (Carroll county). Mike’s cousin, Dawn Hoff, 14, also of Manchester, had the reserve champion market hog, a 240-pound purebred Hampshire gilt. It sold for $1.40 per pound, again going to Esskay. In 1978, Dawn’s brother, Danny Hoff, now 15, had the grand champion 4-H and FFA market hog at the Maryland State Fair.
