A26—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 6,1980 Thunnont THURMONT - The 24th annual Thurmont and Emmitsburg Community Show will be held September 12-14 at Catoctin High School in Thunnont, Md. Entry of exhibits will take place on Thursday evening, September 11, from 6 to 9 pm. and on Friday morning, September 15, from 9-11:30 am. in the school gym nasium. The entry of quilts and afghans will also take place at this time with a limit of three quilts and three afghans per family from the Catoctin High School area. On Friday evening, September 12, the show opens to the public at 6:00 pm. At 8 pm. a program will be presented in the school auditorium which will begin with the massing of flags from local civic organizations. Special recognition will be given to fruit growers in the Catoctin area and to Mr. Wiliam G. Baker, who was a member of the Community Show committee for 23 years. The highlight of the program will be the crowning of the 1980- 81 Catoctin FFA Chapter Sweetheart. At 9 p.m. a cake auction will be held in the school gymnasium. The grand champion cake will be sold first with Mr. Robert Meumer as the auctioneer. From 9 to 11 pm. a Sweetheart Dance will be held m the school commons featuring “The Eyes”. Admission to the dance will be $1.50 per person. At 10:30 am., a Pet Show will be held with entries being solicited from the Catoctin High School area. Following the pet, show, a bike rodeo contest and pie eating contest will b.e held. The Catoctin Mountain Steam Festival will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. with threshing demonstrations at 2 and 5 pm. From 1 to 6 p.m., various demonstrations will be held in the school gym nasium including flower arranging, cake decorating, and omelet and chicken cutting. From 3 p.m. till ? the Thurmont Grange will be serving their annual Roast Turkey and Ham Supper in the school cafeteria. At 6 and 9 p.m. The Catoctin Mountain Boys will play bluegrass music. At 2 p.m., The Beef Fitting and Showing will be held and at 7:30 pm. the Beef, Sheep and Swine Sale will be held in the agriculture area of the school. At 1 and 3 p.m., The Catoctin Mountain Boys will play bluegrass music and at 2 p.m. the Catoctin Mountain Mule Pulling contest will be held.
