A24—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 6, 1950 Lancaster colt is Quarter Horse Futurity winner HARRISBURG - A Lancaster County weanling colt trotted off with the first place ribbon during the Pennsylvania Quarter Horse Association Futurity at the Eastern National Horse Show last Friday. Owned by Samuel Ed wards of Lampeter, the February 10, 1900 colt was shown by Terry Ressler, Strasburg. ‘Heza Tough Bride’ is sired by Skip’s Brick Two out of Little Joe’s Lady. The Eastern National was the rose-gray colt’s first show and the blue ribbon marks bis first futurity win. The first place weanling filly in Friday’s Futurity was exhibited by Kenneth Mills, Salisbury, Md. Mills also exhibited the first place two-year-old gelding, ‘Blazing Skip’, by Penn State’s stud Skip Sioux. Out-of-state entries took the blues in the yearling classes in both fillies and colts competition. Jean Pistilli, Far Hills, New Jersey, exhibited the filly ‘Birch Wood Cash’ to first place honors, while Arthur and Betty Howell of Hagerstown, Maryland showed their ‘Hunk of Loot’ to the top of his class. Frances Burd, Carlisle, captured the first place honors in the PQHA Futurity with his yearling gelding, ‘Leo San Straw'. And Diane Hallman, Green Lane, took first place in her class of two-year-old mares with her entry ‘Dudes Roanie Barb’. The two-year-old colt class found Thomas Kelly, Avonmore, leading the way with his entry ‘lma Happy DeUer’. In the Wednesday and Thursday open shows at the Eastern National, a number of area horses took first place in competition against other Quarter Horse exhibitors from as far away as California, Canada, and Texas. Richard and Kim Myers took a blue in the 1900 colt conformation class, while Arthur and Betty Howell, of Hagerstown, Maryland came in first in the 1979 colt class. William Hogan, Perkasie, showed the top 1977 Quarter Horse stallion. Tricia Fuchs, Transfer, exhibited the first place Youth mare. Her horse went on'to be named the top ranking aged mare and later was tagged the Reserve Grand Champion. In the broodmare class, Linda Reiser of Schuylkill Haven had the top placing mare. Lesley Brechbiel, Waynesboro, exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Gelding after placing first in her Youth class. She followed Darvm Smith of Ashland whose gelding was tagged Grand Champion after winning his aged gelding class. The Youth Showmanship classes found two young Pennsylvania equestrians taking home blue ribbons. Patrick McMahon, of Bethel Park, took first in the 13 and under division, while Ann Mane Nagle, Orwigsburg, won m the 14 -18 division Winners in the trail classes were Wendy Weatherby, Middletown and J P. Rad- wansky, Reading Judith Pennell, Perkasie, placed first in the Working Hunter class Jim Radwanski, Reading, stands at the halter of his winning 6-year-old Quarter Horse Mare Duro’s Trick. The Eastern National did not hold a blue ribbon in store for Adam Felsinger's weanling colt Missies Roan Bar. However, the son of Monte Missle took fourth place in the Quality Improvement Program Closed Futurity for the Lancaster County breeder. Rosemary Ogorchock, Reynoldsville, had a winning first day at the Eastern National placing first in two bridle path hack classes. Edward Kenney, Jr. of Zieglersville and Carl Linsenbach, Dillsburg, tied up the first place slots in the barrel racing competition. Pennsylvania entries dominated the blues in the pole bending contests, with William and Sherry Pursel, Danville, winning the youth class; Steven lines, Fleet wood, winning the regulation; and Mark Aurand, McVeytown, taking first in the open class.
