The competition opened on Tuesday afternoon on the Penn State Campus with the public speaking and parlaimentary procedure contests. On Wednesday, the FFA members scattered far and wide to take part in the remainder of the contests, which ranged from sitting behind a desk to review farm management procedures, to climbing into the show ring for dairy and livestock judging to stealthily trailing game tracks through virgin forests in the new wildlife contest. Finally it all came together on Thursday with the closing session, which featured -the passing on of the cloaks of office to the new state officers and the awards presentations. From the opening strains of the National Anthem by the State FFA Band to the final award, the final session was one of liveliness and ” , ati on Several selec tions by both the band and State FFA Chorus, some with a lively upbeat tempo the some more traditional, set the mood for the close, which sent the jacket-clad audience scattering in as many directions as there are gold-lettered locations spelled out on their backs. Among speakers at the final session were Donald Trimmer, of Woodsboro, Md., national FFA vice president; Kevm Holtzmger, Windsor, Pa., Star Farmer of America; and Glyn Boone, retiring state FFA president.
