Official Dairy-
Month
proclamation
IN THE NAME AND BY AUTHORITY OF THE
COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA
Pennsylvania’s great wealth comes from its people land
and industry Agriculture is the keystone of Pennsylvania's
economic stability, and the keystone of our nation's heritage
The dairy industry is a billion dollar industry in
Pennsylvania As an agricultural state Pennsylvania ranks
among the top five states in the nation in the number of
dairy farms, cows on farms, amount of milk produced marketed
and sold to processing plants, in the top five states for
production of milk milkfat, evaporated and sweetened and
condensed milk, and ice cream
Milk's importance to the human diet has been recognized
since prehistoric times Milk is nature's roost "nearly
perfect food" and provides many essential nutrients for good
health at a oinuroum cost to the consumer Two eight-ounce
glasses of milk provide 2/3 of the calcium and 1/3 the
protein an adult needs daily Milk is also a primary source
of riboflavin and contributes phosphorus, magnesium niacin
thiamin and vitamins A B 6 and 8 12 for a balanced diet
Pennsylvania's dairy industry and the family farmers
who have made the industry grow are a source of pride for us
all It is fitting that we set aside a time to seek a
renewed awareness of the importance of milk to our diets and
to our economy
Therefore I Dick Thornburgh Governor of the Common
wealth of Pennsylvania do hereby declare June 1980 as
"DAIRY MONTH" in the Commonwealth I urge everyone to
observe the month with appropriate activities in recognition
of the fact that Pennsylvania's moustry is truly
"Growing Better "
This is the Dairy Month proclamation signed at
the bottom by Governor Dick Thornburgh and
issued in the name and by authority of the Com
monwealth. It cites the importance of milk
products and the contribution of dairymen to the
state economy.
