Merryman Sparks, Md. 21152 Ph. 301-771-4624 UNIVERSITY PARK - The number one goal of the sheep industry must be to increase the genetic potential of sheep to produce. The genetic potential sets the upper limits which can be obtained from feeding and management. According to Robert Kimble, Director of the Pennsylvania Meat Animal Evaluation Center, the traits of most concern in both commercial and purebred sheep production must be those of most economic importance. An industry that is struggling for its very existence cannot justify fads and fancies, but rather must concentrate its efforts on more efficient production of a high quality product. Kimble says the im portance of growth is ob vious. Increased growth rate means a shorter feeding period. Faster gaining sheep normally convert feed more efficiently. However, we need to also be concerned about the composition of this growth. Seventy-five to eighty-five percent of the differences observed in the retail yield of 11:00 A.M. Including: Supreme Champion and Grand Champion Holstein -1980 Pa Featuring Also Selling boost sheep genetics How to Farm Show Grand Champion Guernsey -1980 Pa.
