Northampton youth,
calves move
into spotlight
EASTON Calves were in
the spotlight last week when
Northampton County
youngsters participated in
the annual calf fitting and
showing competition
sponsored by the County
Holstein Club.
The calves were selected
in the morning and given to a
pair of youngsters, one
experienced and the other
inexperienced. After wat
ching fitting and showing
demonstrations, the
youngsters were on their
own to clip, wash and halter
break their calves.
These youngsters, although a bit young and a few years shy of competing,

There’s more than one way to attempt to move a balky calf. It helps to get a
friend, with one pulling and the other pushing

In the afternoon, Don
Fowler, Fulton County
extension agent, judged the
group in junior and senior
showing and fitting. County
agri-businesses donated
supplies and prizes. Up
stream Farm Corp. hosted
the event.
Junior winners were eight
year-old Kevin McEwen and
nine-year-old Cara Stroh
meier. Senior winners were
Tammy Mmmch, 15, and
Randy Ott, 13. Fitting was
won by Mark Sandt, Bill
Mack and Shelly Mmmch
