University of Md, selling research farm
ADELPHI, Md. - The
University of Maryland will
sell its 319-acre Plant
Research Farm, located
near the intersection of
Randolph Road and Route 29
m Montgomery County, to a
private developer, according
to University President John
S. Toll.
' President Toll announced
that the State Board of
Public Works has approved
a contract between the
University and Shelton
Zuckerman of Chevy Chase,
Md., that allows for the
planned purchase of the
Plant Research Farm over a
four-year period for ap
proximately $9 million. Mr.
Zuckerman was one of four
major developers to bid on
the property.
Purchased by the
University in the-late 1930’5,
the land has been in con
tinuous use for agricultural
