    mPhilly farmers need tailgate marketers
PHILADELPHIA - Local
growers looking for faraier
to-consumer marketing
opportunities are invited to
join the Philadelphia
Tailgate Market Coalition
for their 1980 entries of open
air markets scheduled June
through December.
The Tailgate Markets,
initiated by the Archdiocese
of Philadelphia Nutritional
Development Services in
1977, provide farmer
controlled outlets for local
farm products. Growers who
have previously participated
in the markets report profits
33 percent to 45 percent
higher than the farm
wholesale price normally
received. Likewise, city
consumers find that prices
are an average of 29 percent
less than the local super
market price.
The Tailgate Market
Coalition is headed by a
•V newly-formed Executive
Committee of farmers who
have assumed responsibility
for the management of the
Philadelphia markets.
The first of the four weekly
markets scheduled thus far,
will open on Friday, June 6
