mPhilly farmers need tailgate marketers PHILADELPHIA - Local growers looking for faraier to-consumer marketing opportunities are invited to join the Philadelphia Tailgate Market Coalition for their 1980 entries of open air markets scheduled June through December. The Tailgate Markets, initiated by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Nutritional Development Services in 1977, provide farmer controlled outlets for local farm products. Growers who have previously participated in the markets report profits 33 percent to 45 percent higher than the farm wholesale price normally received. Likewise, city consumers find that prices are an average of 29 percent less than the local super market price. The Tailgate Market Coalition is headed by a •V newly-formed Executive Committee of farmers who have assumed responsibility for the management of the Philadelphia markets.
