Farming, Saturday, March 29,1980 A2< Dover chapter BY PATRICIA GREEK Staff Correspondent DOVER John Thorton and Fred Hotchkiss, both of Ashcombe Dairy, Dover, were the recipients of 1980 Honorary Chapter Farmer Degrees at the 28th Annual Dover FF A Chapter Banquet held recently. Speaker for the evening was Don Trimmer, of Woodsboro, MD, the National Eastern Region Vice-President of the FFA. Trimmer said he got his start m the FFA by working on his grandparent’s Angus farm. According to Trim mer, the two most precious resources this nation has are: Agriculture - “We’ve yet to reach our limit,” and the Youth - “They are the leaders of tomorrow and are preparing for progress.” He said the FFA has both of these resources. This is why last July, President Carter stated, “FFA must take the lead among all the Youth of America for energy con servation.” Outgoing FF A Sweetheart, Linda Green, spoke on what she has done as she held her honor. Linda then crowned the 1980 Dover FFA Sweetheart, Brenda Spangler. Brenda is the 15 year old daughter of Bonnie and Paul Spangler, Dover. Awards were then presented to the members. The 1979-1980 Chapter Farmer Degrees were awarded to Jerry Atland, Jack Shoemaker, John Hilbert, Mark Shoemaker, Harvey Myers, and Bob Livingston. Foundation awards were presented to; Jerry Atland, sheep; Steve Nelson, beef, Marvin Kunkle, swine, Brian Lighty, poultry; Steve Nelson, crops; and Mark Mummert, dairy. Also Brad Shoemaker, vegetable; Mark Shoemaker, livestock; Keith Ross, wildlife management; Randy Clegg, ag sales and service; Bryan Ross, ag mechanics; and Shane Becker, forestry.
