Dl4—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 29,1980 Darryl Schafer urges youth to set goals BY LAUREL SCHAEFFER Staff Correspondent ROBESONIA Members of the Conrad Weiser FFA celebrated another year of achievements, Monday at Conrad Weiser High School during their annual parent and member banquet. Highlighting the evening were two guest speakers; Darryl Schafer, Penn sylvania FFA Vice- President, and Donald Trimmer, National Eastern Region FFA Vice-President. Schafer urged his fellow FFA members co choose a career goal and then plan an FFA program which will help them work toward that goal. “Plan a program which will familiarize you with the career you have chosen,” he said. Let your employer be part of your plan and work with them, Schafer continued. Ex plaining, the state officer said that if their employer knows their intentions and goals, the employer will help tram FFA members toward those goals. “FFA is an asset when applying for a job,” the state officer remarked. He also told the many FFA members present that the most valuable assets of the FFA are friends, and the more FFA activities a member participates in, the more friends he wiii nave. Trimmer discussed some of the many experiences and opportunities he has had since becoming a National FFA Officer, including a trip to Japan where he and other need it during power outages as ■ «v ■■■ as other times. FFA members met with Japanese farmers. The National officer ex plained why he felt the FFA should continue to develop leadership qualities among it’s many members. “An army of young people will be taking over our country in years to come,” he said, “and they should be good leaders.” Trimmer told his audience that the FFA will help to build the qualities needed by these young people. It gives members a chance for leadership development and public speaking opportunities, and builds self confidence.” “The FFA also provides a member with employment preparation,” Miller con tinued.
