Goat exhibitors finally will be given their space m the complex. Accordmg'to Coffman, it was a last minute decision to accept this species at the Expo. “The goat industry, which is gaming in popularity with something like 250 registered herds m the state, is a significant agricultural industry,” Coffman said. “They indicated some interest in getting into the Farm Show, but it was too late in the game to fipH out exactly how many goat producers would be in terested.” There will be no goat show at the Expo, however. But, they will be having representatives of their species there during the three day show. The goat association felt tney did not have enough time to organize a quality show on such short notice, Coffman explained. He was optimistic that until next year there will be a show, with ribbons, for the goats at Expo. The tractor pulling contests will wrap up on Saturday with the middleweight competition. The engines will be warmed up and ready to go by 10 a.m. And for a grand finale for this Expo first, the pull off of the tractor com petition will be decided at C *. r ' l,iccnc poppmg their pistons for the best pull. Although the Farmer’s Fun Night was dropped after last year’s attempt, there will be some friendly com petition among the agricultural sector when the Young Farmers volleyball tournament whistle blows. Eight teams of enthusiastic volleyball players will take their respective courts m a championship playoff. Coffman stated the volleyball tournament was opted for over Fun Night because the sentiment was that last year’s evening of fun and fnendly competition was a hit with the participants more than with the spectators. “Farmer’s Fun Night wasn’t something that the people would travel to see, although we realize the participants had a lot of fun,” he noted. (215)395-8084 and Ordered by, NEVIN K. DIETRICH Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 23,1980—A37 been at last year’s Expo, so he said he based his opinions on what was said by those who did attend. If it’s a machinery exposition, what about the equip ment? Coffman said there were 140 committed exhibitors registeed as Tuesday. With the 60 contracts out standing, he felt the number of exhibitors would run about the same as last year’s show. The Farm Show director noted there were more major distributors planning to be at this year’s Expo, but only one major manufacturer. He also pomted out the Farm Show encouraged energy conservation exhibitors to display their manufactured items at the show. “Farmers have a lot of interest m wood stoves and other energy saving products,” Coffman ad ded. “There will be one exhibit there that will display a furnace that bums old crank case oil for fuel.” One of the events of the first Expo that also was dropped from the second show is the used machinery sale. The Farm Show director said the sale was eliminated because of space. “It didn’t add to the first show—it just was there, so we decided to drop it.” When asked who made the final decisions on what to keep and what to throw out, Coffman explained that they were made by PDA Secretary Penrose Hallowell, Deputy Secretary Chester Heim, and himself, with the Farm Show Commission overseeing all the events held at the complex. Coffman said he realizes the Expo is competing with the 64 year tradition of the Farm Show. One way the show is encouraging exhibitors is the lower price per square foot for space at the Expo. Compared to the six-day Farm Show’s regular space cost of $1.64 per square foot and $1.72 per square foot for premium space, the three-day Expo’s rates are slightly lower with $1.32 and $1.44 respectively. The second Farm Machinery Expo will be holding two special luncheons. A kick-off luncheon will be held on Thursday at noon, and a Farm-City luncheon will take place on Friday. Coffman said he’s excited about this year’s Expo, and is open to suggestions on how to make next year’s show even better. “We don’t want to do anything half—^we want to do it right or not at all.” WE’RE GROWING BCTTC r PUBLIC SALE 1 I OF REAL ESTATE & I i PERSONAL PROPERTY i | SATURDAY, MARCH 22 | I AT 2 P.M.
