USDA proposes change in Brussels sprouts WASHINGTON, D.C. - Changes proposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the voluntary grade standards for frozen brussels sprouts would permit the use of mechanical trimmers in processing the product. The proposals would also drop alternative grade such as “U.S. Fancy” and “U.S. Extra Standard,” and keep the single-letter, sequential grade names U.S. A, B and C. The proposed change conforms with USDA’s policy of uniform grade names for all processed fruits and vegetables, Foreman said.
