STATE PARK
This map shows the area planned for the Swatara Gap State Park. Located
along 1-81 at the Lebanon-Schuylkiil County line, the land acquisition, which
began in 1971, is at a stand still until additional funds are appropriated. An
estimated $2.4 million will be needed to complete the remaining phase of the
land acquisition.

development at Swatara
Gap State Park is not
scheduled to begin for
several years, according to a
progress report issued by
State Senator Clarence F.
Manbeck (R-Lebanon).
The Park, which is located
on the Swatara Creek ad
jacent to Interstate Route 81,
will include land located m
Lebanon and Schuylkill
Counties.
Land acquisition for the
project began in January,
1971, when the General
Assembly appropriated $2.7

million of the original $4.9
million appropriated for
land purchases has been
used up.
Manbeck also reported
that it is too early to predict
exactly what kind of
recreational facilities will be
available when the Park is
completed, due to un
certainity over the
availability of additional
funds. The Department of
Environmental Resources
has suggested that some
funds may be available to

168 have been purchased by
the State, and 19 are in the
process of condemnation.
Four property owners have
not yet been contacted by
State officials.
