The adjustment reflects the rise in the consumer price mdex for food away from home last year. Nutrition programs for the elderly are run by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare with USDA donating food or providing cash in lieu of food to states taking part in these programs. Last year about 150 million meals were served to people over 65 at community centers, schools, churches or other sites convenient for the elderly.
