!2—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 17,1979 Local milk quality team competes at nationals NEW HOLLAND - The -lilk Quality and Dairy -’oods Contest is one of leven National Agricultural ontests conducted annually jy the National FFA Organization as part of the National FFA Convention. This year 33 teams tested their knowledge of milk quality and dairy foods in a contest that included tests on milk production and marketing, identification of flavors and odors in milk and cottage cheese, iden tification of hard cheeses, scoring of sediment pads, and identification of milker unit defects. The contest was one of many educational activities at the National FFA Con vention in which FFA members put into practice die lessons taught in the vocational agriculture classroom. Participants m the Milk Quality and Dairy Foods Contest were given ten samples of bulk milk which has been pasteurized. Each of the samples were visual and taste tested to determine Savor, odor and sediment content of the milk. The team consisted of Kevin Zimmerman of Denver, a junior at Garden Spot High School; Mike Pfautz of Stevens, a sophomore at Ephrata High School; and Christine Davis of Laurelton, a senior at Mifflmburg Area High School. Individually, Kevin received a Silver Medal and Mike Pfautz received a Bronze Medal. The Penn sylvania team received a Bronze Medal. .
