—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 10,1979 16 McKotch has reserve champ junior steer HARRISBURG - Penn sylvanians split cham pionship honors with out-of state exhibitors during the 1979 Junior Steer judging at the 23rd Keystone In ternational Livestock Ex position held at the Farm Show. Dan Hinshaw of Hudson, Illinois, exhibited the champion steer of the junior show. His Chianina-Angus crossbred steer was named champion in the mid dleweight (1135-1170 pounds) competition. Cambria Countian John McKotch of Ebensburg captured reserve champion steer of the junior show with his Chianina-Angus crossbred steer. McKoteh’s steer was named reserve champion steer of the middleweight division and placed second in the mid dleweight class. Champion lightweight steer (975-1025 pounds), an Angus-Chiamna cross, was shown by Seth Gruber of New Tripoli, Lehigh County. Reserve champion light weight steer was also a Chianina-Angus cross, exhibited by Kaye D. Sweigard of Halifax, Dauphin County. Two out-of-state exhibitors took championships in the individual heavyweight steer competition with their Chianina-Angus crossbred steers. John Wilcox of Bedford, Indiana, took reserve champion heavyweight honors after his steer won the 1175-1205 pound competition. A total of nine states were represented at the junior heifer and steer show. The junior heifer show started with the Angus division. In junior heifer calf class, Ernie Frey from Quarryville placed first and David Huff, Lafayette Hill, placed second. Fritz Frey took top honors m the senior heifer class and Ernie Frey placed third in the early summar yearling class. Diane Krause from Lehigh County dominated the March junior yearling class and went on to be named the reserve champion Angus heifer. George Wilson par ticipated in the junior Charolais show and had the semor champion female. John P. Hausner, Dover, dominated the Hereford division. He had the champion Polled Hereford heifer with his early summer yearling and the reserve champion with a late junior yearling heifer. The steer show followed the heifer show and in class one, Karen Fought, Carlisle, took top honors with her Simmental crossbred steer. Wayne Hess from Lancaster County placed third m the same class.
