It— Lancaster Farming, Saturday, Novanbar 3,1979 American Farmer Degree awarded to Earl Geib BY DEBRA STRICKLER MANHEIM - “Money can’t buy what involvement in the FFA organization has given me.” said Earl Geib, on a recent visit to his R 4 Manlieimhome. Earl has been been nominated for the highest FFA Degree, as a result of his livestock production projects and his demon strated leadership abilites in the local and state level. In the past week, he bad the opportunity to talk to freshman FFA members, and his words of advice were “get involved.” This advice comes from an FFA’er who got involved not only on the local level but in the state. Serving as the State’s Despite his broken ankle, Earl Geib is involved with the farming operation. He assists his father in unloading ear corn, and spends time with his steers. This Hereford-Charofais-Angus cross was purchased from Frank Dorsey and will be sold at the Lancaster Auction. 4-H Club hosts halloween party MANCHESTER- The Northeastern Community 4- H Club held its October meeting at the home of Steven Gross. A haunted house was held in the barn. A short business meeting was called to order. After the meeting, club members enjoyed a hayride and games. Refreshments were served. Eastern Regional Vice- President in 197&-77, Earl had an opportunity to visit numerous FFA Chapters and encourage them to enter competitions. He will never regret all the people he met through his involvement in the program. Earl resides with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Geib, on their 50 acre farm. Helping his father with the beef and swine operation, Earl feeds 100 feeder pigs and 10-15 steers per year on his own. He purchases all his pigs as feeders and like to send them to market at 220 pounds. In the future, Earl would like to own a farm, although the present price of land is disheartening. As a 1976 graduate of Manheim Central High School, Earl is appreciative of Mr. Jess Erway and Mr. Glen Spangler who en couraged him to compete for a state office, and enter contests. Of particular interest is the Livestock Production Proficiency contest. Ac cording to Earl, Mr. Spangler forced him to complete the application. As a result, he placed first in the state competition and took a close second in the eastern regional competition.
