—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 13,1979 16 Records broken at Berks Co. show and sale » By LAUREL SCHAEFF Staff Correspondent LEESPORT - Berks County 4-H’ers broke more records last week as they held their second annual Market Lamb Sale at Leesport Market and Auction, here. Following a trend started a week earlier by the Swine Club, two fortunate 4-H’ers sold their champion animals for record prices. This time the records were for market lambs selling for $2.20 per pound for the grand champion and $1.05 for the reserve grand champion lamb. Showing the grand champion was 16 year old David Ernst, Sinking Springs. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ernst, David is a junior attending Wilson High School, West Lawn. He has been showing sheep for seven years and presently s >» / IR'Sto The champion market lamb exhibited by David Ernst was sold to Muthard’s Meats, Temple, for the record breaking price of $2.20 per pound. Showing the reserve grand champion was 17 year old Joe Crisafulli, Mohrsviile. Joe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Crisafulli, Sr. He is presently a senior at Schuylkill Valley High School, Leesport, and plans to attend East Stroudsburg State for Health and Physical Education. Joe keeps a flock of about ten Suffolk ewes which have been producing champions for the past several years. A full brother to the two preceding 4-H champions, this reserve champion is a Hampshire-Suffolk wether. It was named Middleweight building now you can really save. Buying the champion lamb for a record price $.20 above the previous record was Rodney Muthard, Muthard’s Meats, Temple. Muthard purchased five other lambs at the sale.
