The land that is up for grabs is the watershed land of the City of Lebanon. About 700 acres of the total acreage lies within the boundaries of Lancaster Co. The purchase of this land stems on a request from the Game Commission for federal funds. These momes are to be used solely for the purchase of land. The State would be required to come up with matching funds in order to be eligible. The needed 50 per cent would come from the funds received by the Game Commission from the sales of hunting licenses, and from those received from the Pitman-Robertson fund. The P-R monies came from the federal government which imposes a tax on sporting arms, ammunition, and some archery equipment. The P-R funds are to be used for improving the habitat on wildlife land. Robert Wagner, District Director, voiced his own opinion at their recent board meeting He felt that more of this type of land should be used for housing develop ments than prime farmland. Tom Johnston pomted out that the area is good watershed land and will help to unprove water quality. The controversial pur chase will go through only if the State’s Game Com mission can get the needed matching funds.
