NEW HOLLAND - When
the auctioneer’s gavel came
down on block m the New
Holland Stockyard’s sale
barn, the crowd of buyers
and on-lookers cheered. Rus
ty, the 1250 pound grand
champion steer, had just
earned eight year old Fred
Weaver $5.30 for each of his
champion pounds.
The 4-H steer was sold at
the baby beef sale on Thurs
day, just after having taken
top honors in this year’s New
Holland fair. The steer was
purchased by Hubert
Kranich of People’s
Restaurant of New Holland.
The reserve champion was
next on the block. Kathy
Martin’s 1130 pound
Hereford steer sold for $4.30
a pound. Paul Smucker, of
Bird-m-Hand Restaurant,
bought this baby beef.
A total of 29 4-H steers
were auctioned off at the
New Holland club’s sale.
Grand champion steer
sells for over $5 grand
A beaming Fred Weaver, sold his 1250 pound Hereford steer to People’s
Restaurant of New Holland for over $6,000. Hubert Kranich, owner, is pictured
with Fred and Rusty.
