Schrader served as a special assistant for tran sportation matters at the department from April to December 1978. From 1970 to 1976 he was administrative assistant to the then Representative Bergland in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was executive director from 1976 to April 1978 of the National Committee for Locks' and Dam 26, a coalition of farm and labor groups supporting the rebuilding of Locks and Dam 26 at Alton, 111. Schrader, a native of Minnesota, taught social and political science from 1962 to 1968 at Wadena High School, Wadena, Minn., where he also coached baseball, football, and basketball. James R. Lauth, who joined Schrader’s staff last January, was appointed deputy director of the Office of Transportation. The transmission has four separate speed ranges, with three power shifts in each range. The tractor operator does not have to stop the tractor when shifting within any of the speed ranges. In addition, transmission and PTO gears are designed to operate at lower frequencies, eliminating very irritating high-frequency noise. The cab is designed to give the operator maximum visibility to the front, sides and rear of the tractor.
