For years we thought it necessary to cover pruning wounds with tree paint if the wound was over one inch in diameter. Recent work by plant pathologists with the U.S. Forest Service have show that this is not necessary. Covering tree Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 1,1979 wounds with tree paint does not decrease decay but merely satisfies the owner that he has done something to help the tree. But some evidence indicates that healing may be retarded by tree paints.
