96 —Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 23,1979 Red Lion Area FFA’ers win trips to Kansas City RED LION - Twenty six Red Lion Area FFA mem bers attended the 1979 State FFA Activities Week con tests held at Penn State University June 12-14. The Red Lion Area Chapter was presented with a publicity trophy by Harvey A. Smith, editor of The Keystone Farmer magazine, the FFA magazine. Mark Ebaugh and Paul Garner won trips to Kansas City, Mo. for the National FFA Convention and competition in the Meats Judging and Evaluation contest on the national level. Their respective placing of second and third entitled them to gold medals at Penn State. Bob Markle placed eleventh and received a bonze medal in the same contest. Anothe trip winner was Leroy Bowles who won a gold medal by placing tenth out of 149 participants in the Livestock Judging Contest. Bowles will receive an ex pense paid trip to the Eastern Livestock Ex position. Sherry Holtzinger received a bronze medal in MAMMOTH JACK STUD SERVICE *5O WITH RETURN PRIVILEGES Stands approximately W/z hands. In a relatively new con test, Dairy Showmanship, Patty Greek placed third. There were 24 participants. The dairy judging team consisting of Barb Kilgore,' Abbe Johnson, and Jeff Grove received a bronze medal. In individual placings, Barb Kilgore placed 14th out of 205 par ticipants and received a gold medal and Abbe Johnson received a bronze medal. Beth Holtzmger received a gold medal in the state FFA public speaking contest for her speech entitled “Agriculture Is In Your Future Why Ignore It?” The chapter parliamen tary procedure team received an honorable mention. Members in cluded: Barb Snyder, Ken Sechrist, Todd Grove, Blaine Grove, Greg Innerst, Francine Lewis, Darlene Schrum, and Chris Reachard. riding mares. In the forestry contest Jim Innerst placed seventh and received a silver medal John Scott received honorable mention in he agricultural mechanics contest and Tom Innerst received a bronze medal in land judging. Tammie Waltermre sang in the State FFA chorus. Other Red Lion Area FFA members who attended incuded: Jimmy Shoff, Agricultural Mechanics and Scott Hildebrand, Livestock Judging. There were over 1900 registered for the three day event which included guest speaker Mr. Kevin Drane National FFA Vice President form Ninevah Ind. The contingent was ac companied by teachers o agriculture, John Myers Guy Naugle, William Tindal and female chaperon' Marlene Coester.
