51—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 2,1979 QA/omew Societies Lancaster Co, Society 5 Lancaster County Farm Women Society 5 held their May meeting at the Heint zleman Art Center, Manheim, with Laura Frey as hostess. The Society toured the Center and viewed the art. Seventeen members were present. Elizabeth Har tenstein will be the Society’s visitor for June. The Society is planning to have a bazaar table at the Homemakers Day meeting in October. On June 7, the Society will be entertained by Society 15 at the Black Rock at 12 p.m. On June 21, the Society will be going to Conestoga View. Speaker for the meeting was Mrs. Bryl Hawn, Manheim. she spoke on the crafts at the Center. The next meeting will be on June 30th at the Bird-m- Hand Restaurant. The hostess will be Esther Mentzer and Esther Mussleman. Speaker will be Mrs. Becker. Her subject will be “The Amish People. ” Lancaster Co. Society 30 On May 21, Lancaster County Farm Women Society 30 entertained Society 20 at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center. After the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Carlo Weaver, president, the Society was given in formation on eggs. They also saw a film from Pennfield Corporation by the “Omelet King.” The King, Scott Barrows, demonstrated how, to make omelets and crepes after which each member made their own. Members were reminded Society 10 will be en tertaining their Society on June 2,12:30 p.m. Donations were made to the IFYE program, Dairy Princess Pageant and Meals on Wheels. The county projects were brought before the members for vote. Society 31 voted to support Teen Haven. Becky Buckwalter was the guest speaker. She talked on herbs oiiSspices. The next meeting will be a family picnic at Mrs. Ben Wenger’s home, June 24 at 12:30 p.m. Conservation corps HARRISBURG - The Department of En vironmental Resources’ Office of Resources Management today an nounced that a $3,173,915 grant from the Federal government has been ap proved for the contmued operation of the Young Adult Conservation Corps program in Pennsylvania. The program, ad ministered by DER, offers employment for ap proximately 650 young adults, between the ages of 16 and 23, in conservation related work opportunities at various locations throughout the Com monwealth. Participating in the program, which provides 171 non-residential and two residental wnrk sites, the to be continued Del. scholars to attend PAFC institute NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware Council of Farmer Cooperatives has selected ten young Delawareans for expense-paid trips to the Pennsylvania Association of Farmer Cooperative Summer Institute, to be held in July at Shippensburg State College. Young people from Delaware, Penn sylvania, New York, and New Jersey will spend four days studying the cooperative system of marketing at the Institute. Those attending were selected in testing com petition after a training session, according to Dan Harris, spokesman for the USDA is predicting a heavy grasshopper in festation this Summer on many ranges in the West. Last year’s grasshoppers laid a great number of eggs and spring weather will determine the survival rate. Cool, wet weather brings disease and fungus to young grasshoppers and cuts down on the number that survive. USDA is working with ranchers and treatment programs will be launched when grasshoppers reach eight per square yard. Under the cooperative federal state-rancher program, the cost of aerially treating private land is divided equally three ways. latter complete with dor mitories and dining facilties, are DER’s Bureaus of State Parks and Forestry. Also participating are the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Penn sylvania Fish Commission and various local govern ments. The Young Adult Con servation Corps is open to people of all social, economic and racial classifications, regardless of sex. To qualify they must be m the Ifr to 23 years age bracket, unemployed, a citizen or lawfully admitted alien, and out of school. Short term Summer em ployment is not permitted.
