Alumni honored for at tainments, and taken into membership, were Penrose Hallowell, Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture, and Merrill L. Mordan, president of the First National Bank of Honeybrook. Hallowell, class of 1950, served from 1969 to 1977 as state director of the federal Farmers Home Ad ministration. He owns Pennywell Farms, a 290- acre Holstein dairy operation in Ottsville, Bucks County. He was elerted to Poultry science graduate scholarships announced NEWARK, Del. Mordan, class of 1949, served for several years as chairman of the agricultural committee within the Pennsylvania Bankers Association. He helped to organize the agricultural credit conference held an nually at Penn State. He has been involved m many civic and community activities in Chester County. Honored for exceptional service in research with the College of Agriculture was Dr. Robert L. Cowan, professor of animal nutrition. Honored for outstanding work as a teacher was Dr. Leon J. Johnson, associate professor of soil mineralogy. Cited for achievements m Extension work was Herbert C. Gilmore, professor of dairy science extension. biochemistry, the scholarship has been made available through a grant from the Hubbard Farms Charitable Foundation of Walpole, New Hampshire. The amount of the scholarship for the 1979-1980 academic year will be $lOOO. It will be made available on an equal opportunity basis to at Penn State Bruce R Knoebel, Pitt sburgh, received the senior scholarship award of a watch. Knoebel is majoring m forest science. Junior citations of $5O each went to James T. Elwell of Har wmton, Ct., majoring in animal bioscience; and to Lon F. Fehr of Pine Grove, majoring in horticulture. Sophomore scholarship awards of pen desk sets were presented to Robert L. Schenck of Scottdale, major in food science; Kathleen J. Schiever of Harmony, major in dairy production; Mane I. Weber of St. Clair, major in animal science; and Laura L. Weinberger of Clinton, major in animal bioscience. Faculty members initiated were Sidney E, Barnard, professor of-food science Extension; Dr. Erskine H. Cash, associate professor of animal science: Dr. Kenneth a recipient selected on the basis of merit by a com mittee within the depart ment. In announcing the scholarship, Rosenberger expressed his appreciation for the generosity of the donor, noting that Hubbard Farms is a poultry breeding and research farm whose Goodwin, professor .of poultry science; Joseph A.
