Acres for harvest are up seven percent from a year ago to 262,000, while an expected yields is off one bushel to 32 bushels per acre. U.S. winter wheat produc tion is forecast at 1.39 billion bushels, 11 per cent or 143 million bushels above the 1978 crop. Hay stocks on Penn sylvania farms May 1 are estimated at 1.2 million tons, more than double of that a year ago. The U.S. total of 29.9 million tons is up 24 per cent from 1978. May 1 potato stocks held in storage in Pennsylvania by growers, local dealers and processors are estimated at 750,000 cwt., 12 per cent of the 1978 crop. At the United States level, an estimated 60.8 million cwt. of potatoes for all uses were in storage in the Fall producing states. This reflects the largest monthly disappearance since the beginning of the storage season primarily because of the increased processing activity and a large volume of seed deliveries.
