Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 19,1979—25 season forecast The group met in Atlanta to review and analyze the prospects for the 1979 fresh market peach crop. Shipments of early varieties are already reaching the markets from three meetings in order to complete their beef project. The baby beef tour will be in the Dover-Wellsville Area. each Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. The Crop Reporting Board announced that the total crop from the nine Southern states is ex pected to be only two per cent above last year’s crop. This change reflects a substantial increase in South Carolina production. South Carolina leads all the Southern states in the production of fresh market peaches. Other states in this area reflect production estimates at or slightly below those of a year ago, the committee reported. The 1979 crop is off to an excellent start with ideal growing conditions which began with favorable Winter conditions and include adequate moisture and sunlight. These factors in dicate that buyers and marketers can expect a good supply of high quality fruit now and throughout the balance of the harvesting season.
