The hearings will be held in June. Other sites are Dallas, Texas; Atlanta, Ga.; Reno, Nev.; and Des Moines, lowa. USDA has ordered the hearing as a result of a proposal from a group representing a number of national beef and farm organizations under the authority of the Beef Research and Information Act. Assistant Secretary of Agriculture P.R. Smith said such an order would establish a Beef Board, composed of up to 68 producers, which could conduct a cattle and beef research and information program funded by assessments on sales of cattle. The program would ' be monitored by the Department’s Agricultural Marketing Service.
