Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, April 21,1979 Perry temationally-known for the development of the artificial insemination program as a method of improving dairy herds, earned a bachelor of Science degree in dairy husbandry from Penn State in 1916. A master of arts degree in economics was conferred by Columbia University in 1928. A native of Stewartstown, he taught in a one-room rural school for two years prior to enrolling at Penn State, During his senior year in college he was president of the Dairy Husbandry Club. Perry started his career in Extension at Penn State, serving four years as Tioga County agent. He was a dairy specialist at West / Virginia University from 1920 to 1923, then was named Extension dairy specialist at Rutgers University. He was on the Rutgers faculty until his retirement in 1956. Through his pioneering efforts, the first dairy ar tificial insemination organization in the United States began operation in New Jersey in .1938. His textbook, “The Artificial Insemination of Farm Animals,” has been widely used throughout the world. Following retirement, Perry served as a livestock advisor for the International Cooperation Administration working in JSgypt, Lebanon, and Brazil. He also was promotional supervisor for the American Dairy Association in New Jersey. Professional memberships include the American Dairy Science Association, American Society of Animal Science, and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also is a member of the Dairy Shrine Club, Americans -for Middle East Understanding, Common Cause, Princeton Agricultural Association, New Brunswick Presbyterian Church, Penn State Alumni Association, and English Speaking Union.
