—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, April 7,1979 106 Hallowell addresses Lehigh farmers’ association By LAUREL SCHAEFFER Staff Correspondent SCHNECKSVILLE - Addressing approximately half of the members of the Lehigh County Farmers’ Association on March 24, Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Penrose Hollowell stated that he still feels he is a neighboring farmer and is more comfortable in that role. HolloweU then proceeded to tell the Lehigh farmers what he is trying to ac complish as agriculture secretary and what he plans to do in the future. Advising fanners to think of security bonds more like insurance he said he supported requirements to bond dairies. The speaker also said he is trying to preserve land and is pushing for in creased agricultural ex ports. HolloweU also stated that he wants to push Penn sylvania farm products. We' have excellent products, he explained, and should be proud of them. Being located close to urbanized areas, the agriculture secretary noted the need for less energy to get Pennsylvania’s products to market. In concluding his brief expos£, Hollowed urged his fellow farmers to contact him whenever they have problems or suggestions, “My office door is always open L and I can be reached by telephone also, he assured his audience. Also addressing the 160 PFA members was Leon Turner, national legislative committee chairman and membership chairman. Turner noted that Lehigh County made and surpassed WHY?
