USD A, EPA agree , WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture have renewed an agreement to share employees, funds and facilities to clean up rural waterways, protect important farm and forest lands from development, create sound pest control programs and cooperate in other areas of mutual in terest. Agriculture Secretary Bob Bergland and EPA Ad ministrator M. Costle signed a five-year “memorandum of un derstanding” to pursue “common objectives, in terests and statutory requirements, and to avoid duplication of effort.” The new agreement replaces a 1974 cooperative pact. “Healthy soil, water and air are essential to a healthy American agriculture,” said Bergland, “so it’s only natural that we work with EPA to protect these resources and to use them in environmentally acceptable ways.” “EPA relies upon USDA’s experiences with the needs of farmers to help us make (^ >>W . " vt Xts ' on rural program decisions that benefit them as well as the public at large,” Costle said. “The relationship between the agencies sometimes has been stormy in the past, but Bob Bergland and I have been working together on joint problems since our appointments two years ago.” Specifically, the agreement commits the two departments to share in formation, use one another’s facilities, transfer funds, Model SG-357 SG-544 SG-546 SG-548 SG-748 Uncaster Farming, Saturday, February 24,1979 Code No Description 17-0001 *%" opening lor Farrowing 17-0005 opening forNursen 17-0006 ,1 /2"openm! 17-0007 *Vfe” opening for Nursery 17-0010 •%" opening for Growing/ Finishing AGSTAR BUILDINGS AND EQUIPMENT A.
