York Co. Extension offers Spring workshops YORK - Suffering from the mid-winter “blahs”? Maybe it’s time to brighten your spirits by learning a new craft. Marceil Seckman, York County Extension home economist, has announced the Spring schedule of craft classes and invites all in terested individuals to make their reservations im mediately. Enrollment fees should accompany reser vations and checks may be made out to: Extension Service Special Fund. Unless enrollees are notified, they should attend the first class scheduled in each workshop series. Where supplies are required, students will be contacted with a list of equipment needed. Lap Quilting will teach the techniques of patchwork, applique and how to put the quilted patches together using the lap method, a method which does not require a large quilting frame. Instructor is Ruth Hake, who will also demonstrate traditional quilting with a frame. Cost is $l2; two vmrkshops are available. Workshop No. 1 will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 5, at the 4-H Center. Workshop No. 2 will meet 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the same days as No. 1. Ultra suede and suede-like fabric techniques is a class designed to teach the selection and layout of patterns to most efficiently use the fabric that imitates suede. Cost for this workshop No. 3 is $lO. Joan Kollosch will teach the sessions, scheduled for Wednesdays March 21, 28 and April 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the 4-H Center. Tailoring men’s and boy’s knit sports jackets will be taught by home economist Marcy Seckman. The class will present techniques to be used in giving professional looking results to sports jackets using double knit fabrics. Cost is $1 for this Workshop No. 4, scheduled for Tuesdays, 7 to 8 p.m., April 3,10,17 and 24 at the 4- H Center. Reupholster a chair will teach the skills and techniques of furniture upholstery. Students will bring a chair to class, strip it down to the frame, learn how to replace webbing, tie springs and recover the piece. Workshop No. 6 is taught by Ruth Benedict and has a reservation fee of $25. Classes are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Tuesdays, March 20, 27, April 3,10,17, and 24 at the 4- H Center. Workshop No. 7, a bus trip to Philadelphia fabric district, is planned for Thursday, April 5. Buses will leave Queensgate Shopping Center at 8 a.m. and return by 5 p.m.; bus fair is $6. Drape your own windows will include the techniques of making lined drapes. Students will learn how to measure windows, figure yardage, construction techniques and pleat placement.
