The panel discussion topic is “Ex perience with Artificial In semination and Estrus Syn chronization.” Discussion will deal with how cattle breeding can be done all at onetime. Taking part in the panel discussion will be Dr. Em mitt Full of Mf. Airy, a veterinarian; Fred Hamer of North American Breeders at Berryville, Va.; Gordon C. Keys of Olney; and James Reid of Berlin. According to Dr. William E. Kunkle, Extension livestock specialist at the University of Maryland in College Park, there are at least three advantages for synchronizing breeding, compared with conventional artificial insemination: Reduced labor-required to inseminate cattle; Less ex pertise required in detecting cattle in heat; and Flexibili ty in scheduling the breeding of cattle. “Synchronizing the estrus cycle in beef cattle has the potential of increas ing the use of artificial in semination. Top sires are available to cattlemen through artificial insemina tion at a lower cost, as com pared to owning them,” says Kunkle.
