To effectively meet the rapidly changing needs of our members, we need a systematic method for likening and taking notes. Then, when we respond, we know we’re doing it the right way,” Akins said. “Ideally, we’d like to have a question and answer ses sion with every member,” Akins told Golden State breeders. “Since the size of our membership prohibits that, we’ll use the scientific sample approach employed by industrialists for market research studies.” Akins said a market research firm called Projec tions in Keene, New Hamp- shire, had been contracted to conduct a two-phase research plan. The first phase will consist of a qualitative study, using in depth personal interviews of Holstein Association members. The second phase will involve quantitative research, using telephone in terviews with 200 of the Association’s members chosen by computer to be a representative sample. Pro fessional interviewers from the Chicago based firm, Market Facts, will use a na tional watts line to ask their questions. The resulting in formation will be tabulated by computer and analyzed for use by the Association’s board of directors and management staff in design ing future programs and ser vices. “We hope to gam Insight into the attitudes of the members on such things as the accessability of animal performance information, the adequacy of our com munications and the relative PUBLIC SALE OF FARM MACHINERY Corner of Sawmill and Scheller Road. We must invest in a search of new technology.” Akins spoke of research efforts underway with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the Na tional Association of Animal Breeders.
